If you do not have a hammock stand, you may use stakes instead.  One stake at each end of the hammock will hold it up so you can sleep in it.  You will need two large stakes and two small stakes to complete the project.

Two stakes need to be quite large.  The stakes should be high enough to get the hammock off the ground.  A good rule of thumb is to have four foot stakes.  Drive the stakes two feet down into the ground.  Then use some rope to hold the stakes in place.  Tie a taut line from the large stakes to the small stakes.

If you are camping, take an axe with you and you can make your own stakes.  Make sure to bring some rope.
