Stores don’t typically sell a hammock post.  Posts are typically fencing materials.  Probably the only thing you need to know is whether you want a 4*4 post or a 6*6 post.  They will both work nicely, but they have a little different look. 

Many of the posts sold at hardware stores are pressure treated lumber.  It is less expensive lumber, but it shouldn’t be touched by your bare skin.  For this reason, many people prefer natural untreated cedar or redwood.  You may need to locate a wood fence supplier for the best choice of materials.
