Hammock stands can be made in a variety of ways.  The simplest method is to plant two trees exactly where you want them (joking).

Materials Needed:

  1. Eighteen Feet of Six by Six by eight Lumber. We recommend cedar or redwood.
  2. Two eye bolts long enough to go through six inches of lumber (6.5 inches or larger).
  3. Eight Bolts (6.5 inches or longer)
  4. Fourteen self tightening washers that are the correct size for bolts.
  5. Four 8.5 inch bolts
  6. Twelve regular washers
  7. Wood saw
  8. Drill
  9. 12 locking nuts for bolts.

Steps

  1. Cut a board in half.  Lay the cut boards on the ground eight feet apart keeping parallel.
  2. Take two of the boards and sandwich them between two other boards.  The boards sticking up should be at a forty five degree angle.  Use four bolts at each intersection to hold them together.  You should now have four boards hooked together.  Two will be parallel and on their skinny side, while the other two will be sticking up as supports for the hammock.
  3. Anchor the boards on the floor to the board that you cut.
  4. Install Eye Bolts.

Tips:

Timberlok landscape screws will make the job faster and easier.  However, the stand won’t be easy to take apart.

Using four by four posts for the upright lumber will make the stand more attractive and sturdy.

If your screws or bolts are too long use a hacksaw or reciprocating saw to cut them off.
